Fusion-splice-on (“hot melt”) connectors — the fiber is fusion-spliced to a factory-polished pigtail stub inside the connector body rather than terminated mechanically. Unlike mechanical fast connectors, this fusion-splice-on type requires a fusion splicer on site — commonly shown alongside fast connectors as an alternative termination method.
